Wounded 'Eers Fall to Eagles

It was a Friday night cross-county shoot-out with the Pioneers visiting the Scott Eagles. It didn't look good for SK when there seemed to be as many players watching warm-ups as players participating in warm-ups. Out with injuries tonight- Darien Lanham, Nate Ponzer, Langdon Barnes, Grant Schneider and Josh Brown. All of these players normally see a lot of minutes for the Pioneers. On paper, it seemed Scott would have an advantatge going into the game with 5 injured Pioneers watching from the bench. It wasn't that way as the SK boys put out their best effort in the last few games. Coach Steiner used more line-ups than he has one-liners and his team put forth a gutsy effort. SK falls by two with a final score of 54-52. The loss was the Pioneers' third in a row.

The Pioneers trailed by by three at the end of the first and second quarters. The boys came out of the locker room with a little more energy and went up by a 27-26 score right after the intermission. SK extended its third quarter lead by 8 on the strength of two treys by Jeff Slavey. Scott came back with more intensity on the defensive end and trimmed the lead to one- SK up 38-37 at the end of the third quarter. Scott's momentum gained at the end of the third quarter continued in the fourth as they extended the lead. SK made things tough on themselves by hitting only 8 of 18 foul shots for the game with several key misses in the fourth quarter. Scott seemed to come up with more loose balls and rebounds down the stretch which allowed them secondary offensive opportunities.

Channel 5 covered the game as the Wild Card game of the week. Video link at http://www.wlwt.com/video/15317330/index.html

SK will try to regroup as they take on Cov Cath at the Joe on Wednesday.
