SK got on the board first in the opening half as Tanner O’Hara scored for the 1-0 advantage.
New Cath came out in the second half and brought all kinds of pressure on the Pioneer defense. Goalkeeper Sam Benner had to come off his line multiple times to challenge the New Cath attackers. Unfortunately, the game had to be stopped for injuries after several such plays. One play cost Benner a tooth as the New Cath player’s knee appeared to catch the Pioneer keeper in the jaw. While the New Cath player was being attended to, Benner went to the sideline, rinsed his mouth out and returned to the field to finish the game and post the shutout. A very gutsy performance by the Sophomore keeper to say the least. Garrett Jacobs was able to give the Pioneers some insurance when the New Cath keeper came out on a play but didn’t come up with the ball. Jacobs’ shot found the back of the net for the final score of the game.
This was an impressive win Coach Wolfe’s Pioneers who phoned Niehaus from the field to give him the good news about the SK victory. It was apparent from SK’s play that this one was played for their missing captain. Get well soon Kevin.
Senior Adam Wilson takes one of the direct free kicks following the New Cath foul.

Branstetter looking like Pete Rose after getting fouled on the breakaway. A booking was issued after this play.

Jacobs follows through on his shot as the goal keeper comes up empty.

Oh yeah.

That's what I am talking about.

This game was a battle. Benner goes down after getting his tooth knocked out.
