Lady Pioneers Take Breds

The Lady Pioneers took to the hardwood tonight for their second game in as many nights as they hosted the New Cath Lady Breds. SK wins by a final of 54-41 to extend their record to 11-2. Both teams came out cold and tight in the beginning of the game. SK finally got things going and jumped out to a 11-7 first quarter lead. With Lauren Conley racking up two first half fouls, Coach Stowers went to the bench for Junior Jessica Farris. Farris was everywhere playing strong defense on D-1 recruit Shannon Klei and also coverting on the offensive end with some athletic moves. Farris had two and-one conventional three point plays, one off an ubelievable behind the back pass from Chelsea Tolliver in the second quarter. Farris racked up 10 first half points. Tolliver led all scorers with 21 points on 6 for 12 shooting from the field and 8 out of 13 from the line.

The Pioneers forced 31 Bred turnovers on the night. The Pioneers held the highly touted backcourt of Klei and Sandfoss in check as they combined for 4 out of 13 shooting for a total of 16 points. Forward Lyndsay Figgins led the Pioneers with 7 steals before she went down early in the third quarter with a knee injury. Preliminary diagnosis is a LCL injury. We are certainly praying that Lynds is going to be OK.

In JV action, the Lady Pioneers rebounded from their tough loss last night and came away with an impressive win by a final of 37-31. Freshman Nikki Brown led the Pioneer effort with 12 points. Destiny Cosentino added 8 while Sydni Wainscott and Alli Ponzer chipped in 7 a piece. The Blur showed another level of speed tonight as she made an unbelievable steal coming out of nowhere to break up the New Cath fast break.

Lynds was looking like a soccer goalie picking the ball out of the air before she got injured. Get well soon #25. We'll be praying for you! (From your biggest fan.)
