Pioneers Win on Two Minute Drill Thrilling Comeback

It looked like at the start of the game that the Pioneers were going to walk all over the Holmes Bulldogs at Tom Ellis Stadium tonight. SK jumped out to a 16-0 lead and appeared to be well on their way to the win. However, once the second half started, Holmes ran a kick-off back to the house and took the ball away from SK and scored a defensive touchdown. Suddenly, the Pioneers were on the losing side of the scoreboard. The rest of the third and most of the fourth quarter involved several lead changes. SK scored with a power running game while Holmes scored with no huddle offense and relied on laterals and quarterback keepers. Holmes scored their last touchdown with about 2 minutes to go shortly after Jefferson completed his only pass of the game. SK was down but took over on their own 30 yard line. SK looked to be executing the perfect 2 minute drill and moved the ball down the field on several short yardage plays gaining several first downs. However, things stalled at the Holmes 5 yard line. SK was down to their final play with 4th and goal to go with only 11 seconds left. Elbert connected with Tommy Gibson on a laser guided pass and beautiful catch to give SK the lead. This back and forth game was not done. Holmes took the ball on the kick-off into SK territory and had time for only one play. Jefferson went back to pass, fumbled the ball, picked it up and fired downfield to an open receiver who was unable to pull the pass in- ball game over. SK wins the thriller 45-42.
